Alicia’s Testimony
At only 6 weeks old, I became a regular attendee at church. My mother was the spiritual leader of our home at that time since my father was not saved until I was probably 5 or 6 years old. We always went to church as a family and my parents made it a priority for me to be able to go to Christian school instead of public school.
I was only 4 years old when I decided I wanted to ask Jesus to be in my heart. I understood that I was a sinner and did bad things that displeased God and that those sins would prevent me from being able to go to Heaven one day. I knew that He could help me to do better if I just asked Him and that His son’s death on the cross was what could cleanse me from my unworthiness. I went to Christian school all of my school-age years but did not take my walk with Jesus seriously until I was a senior in high school. I realized that even though I was surrounded by people who said they were Christians, it didn’t seem like many of us genuinely had a relationship with Jesus. It was at the age of 17 that I decided to rededicate my life to God and with that decision, I had so much of a desire to pray and read God’s word. A desire for a real relationship with Jesus. I was born again!
Being a senior in high school, there were many temptations and no Christian is perfect. As such, I made mistakes and I am very thankful that God’s mercies are new every morning. I was not sure where I was going to go to college but I decided to apply for college at Word of Life Bible Institute. It was at this one year college that I met my husband, Chris. The first day I met him I actually called my mom and told her I’d marry him one day!
We got married in 2013 and every year has had many ups and downs along with lessons God has taught me through our relationship with each other and our relationships with friends and family. I do not have a rags to riches story but I am blessed beyond measure that from the very beginning of my life I have had many influential people in my life from my parents, to teachers, to friends I met along the way who cared about my soul and always pointed me to Christ.
